Old School Protein Drinks - Thank God for Optimum Nutrition and Beverly International

Here’s a few “old school” bodybuilding recipes. There were stories of guys drinking raw milk, fish protein powder mixes and even cow’s blood. In the 80’s I resorted to drinking orange juice mixed with raw eggs. Man, I’m glad we have so many options in tasty powders and RTDs.
Vince Gironda’s Special Protein Drink
12 oz. half & half
12 raw eggs. ( best to use the 100% liquid eggs we have today I guess, but they have no yolk. Comments on that one.
1/3 cup protein powder
1 banana
Blend it up & drink it thruout the day, between meals and before retiring.

Steve Reeve’s Drink Mix
Fresh orange juice,
Knox gelatin
honey,
banana
raw eggs
skim milk
egg white
and soy protein.

Bob Hoffman’s Gain Weight formula (based on soy protein)
A one day supply
2 quarts milk
2 cups skim milk powder
2 raw
eggs 4 tablespoons peanut butter
½ brick ice cream
1 banana
4 tablespoons malted milk powder
6 tablespoons corn syrup

Rheo Blair who pioneered the powdered mixable protein had three formulas:
  1. No carbohydrate formula – don’t have specifics
  2. 66% freeze dried egg and 34% milk protein
  3. 90% milk protein and 10% whole egg protein
